Microsoft Gives You Web Content In Your Car

AutoPCs are all but extinct these days so Microsoft will apparently stick to what they do best and build the software only.

In its continuing effort to make Windows CE the universal operating system for all smaller devices, Microsoft will reportedly unveil its latest efforts on Sunday, Windows CE for Automotive. As reported on ZDNet Microsoft plans to announce Windows CE for Automotive, at the Convergence 2000 conference in Detroit.

The software is designed to run a growing number of on board computer systems that auto makers are including in their cars. This will not be another AutoPC however. AutoPCs are all but extinct these days so Microsoft will apparently stick to what they do best and build the software only.

The Microsoft announcement comes just days after Palm Inc. and Delphi Automotive Systems Corp. announced a joint venture called MobileAria Inc. that will give drivers access to Internet content via voice-activated software.

In this obviously competetive market the two companies are battling for market share and as of today, Palm is the clear winner. Will this trend keep up? Who knows but it'll be a fun ride.

What do you think about having web content in your car? Do you need it? Will you purchase it? We want your opinions so let us know!
