Extended Systems, a provider of mobile information management solutions for the enterprise, suite of mobile solutions will support the Microsoft Windows Powered Smartphone. The company made the announcement today at the global launch of the Windows Powered Smartphone in London. The Microsoft Windows Powered Smartphone provides both voice and data communications on one mobile device. Extended Systems' mobile solutions are slated to provide a platform for mobile application development on the new devices, as well as server-based synchronization capabilities with Microsoft Exchange and other groupware applications.
Smartphone 2002 is Microsoft's latest foray into the smartphone market. Unlike Pocket PC Phone edition, which emphasize the handheld aspect of the PDA/cellphone combination, the new operating system's primary purpose is to make and receive phone calls. The first devices featuring Smartphone 2002 should appear within the next couple of months.
