Santa Monica, CA-based hotspot aggregator Boingo Wireless today released client software for Pocket PC 2002 units so Boingo users can use the personal digital assistant (PDA) instead of just a Windows laptop.

The software, called Pocket Boingo, also comes with a newly launched Web site at pda.boingo.com . Currently the site carries basic info and download links to the software, all formatted to look good on a 240x320 screen on a PDA.

The Pocket Boingo software is similar to the Windows version. It sniffs out available networks and uses profile management to connect users to the network with automatically created configurations. User profiles can be exported from the Windows version and transferred to a Pocket PC device.

Pocket Boingo will only work on Pocket PCs running ARM processors (initially the iPAQ 3600, 3700, 3800, and 3900 series) and with Wi-Fi cards using Network Driver Interface Specification (NDIS) 5.1 compliant drivers for network sniffing and managing the connection (Proxim ORiNOCO, Compaq WL110 or HP hn220w PC Cards with version 7.62 device drivers).
