By James Miller With the annoucement of Hewlett-Packard's newest high-end iPAQ Pocket PC this week, the iPAQ h5450, a number of vendors have either announced support for or have had their technologies and applications bundled on or with (on CD-ROM) this new handheld powerhouse.
The iPAQ h5450, though pricy at $699, offers a lot. It is a wireless device with enhanced biometrics security, wireless LAN and Bluetooth capabilities, as well as a 400MHz processor with 64MB of RAM and 48MB flash ROM, and a high-resolution display (for more details on the iPAQ h5450, click here).
Vendors who have signed up to support the iPAQ h5450 include Plantronics with four new headsets; MediaQ, who's graphics controller manages the h5450's 64-bit 2D graphics acceleration; NetMotion Mobility and its software to allow Pocket PCs with wireless network connections to move across coverage gaps and networks, including wireless LANs, WANs, and hotspots, without having their applications crash while maintaining a secure connection; Insignia's software to enables iPAQ users to download and run Java-based content; Atmel Biometrics' FingerChip Biometric sensor and integrated WLAN solution, which have been integrated into the h5450; Colligo's out-of-Box messaging and file transfer application for providing instant file exchange and private messaging directly between mobile professionals using their WLAN or Bluetooth-enabled iPAQ without the need for central access points, servers, or Internet connections; and National Semiconductor's WPAN Bluetooth Module, which enables the new iPAQ's Bluetooth capability. Other companies supporting the h5450 include XcelleNet and its Afaria Mobile Infrastructure software that enables enterprises to extend systems management capabilities out to an array of mobile devices; Sharp Microelectronics, who's transflective TFT display has been integrated into the h5450; Superscape, who's 3D enabling software has been used to develop a sophisticated multi-player motorbike racing game which will be included with every h5450; BSQUARE, who's software Enables Secure Digital Card functionality on the new iPAQ; and CNM, who's CNM Xpress Conferencer Pocket PC version is featured on the h5400 series. CNM Xpress Conferencer Pocket PC allows users to initiate, schedule and control conference calls directly from the h5450. Related Links:
