Navman USA, a designer and manufacturer of global positioning systems (GPS), communication and marine products, has released its latest companion product for Hewlett-Packard iPAQ Pocket PCs.

According to the company, the Navman GPS 3420 is compatible with the iPAQ H3600, H3700, H3800 and H3900 series devices, while its new SmartST Professional street mapping software features detailed street-level mapping, address-to-address routing, Back-on-track rerouting when off-course and an extensive points-of-interest library.

The company said large display icons and easy-to-read maps provide an operator-friendly interface. For added safety while driving, Navaman said the software is fully automatic and provides voice, in addition to visual, driving instructions. Other features include a large digital navigation display; dynamic driving instruction list; automatic map zoom feature; heading, distance to go, time to go, estimated time of arrival, speed calculations as well as the ability to store maps in the iPAQs memory or on CompactFlash expansion cards. The Navman software uses NAVTECH data from Navigation Technologies, which supplies cartography for all of the North American in-vehicle navigation market.

The Navman GPS 3420 ($299.95) comes complete with a GPS sleeve, SmartST Professional street navigation software with maps for the contiguous 48 states and Hawaii, in-car mounting kit and a vehicle power adapter. It has a built-in Type I and Type II CF slot. Navman's U.S. street mapping software can be purchased separately for $179.95.
