Socket Announces Bluetooth GPS Kit For Pocket PCs

Socket Communications today announced a GPS kit for Pocket PCs that includes in-car navigation software and a wireless GPS receiver.

Socket's Bluetooth GPS Navigation Kit, which is slated to be available February 10 for $529, will bundle the previously announced Socket Bluetooth GPS Receiver with the company's MyNavigator software.

"MyNavigator has the most intuitive user interface on the market and includes an array of helpful features including missed-turn correction, on-the-fly route modifications, almanac functionality, and speed alerts settings, enabling drivers to focus on their driving and not on where the next turn will be," said John Doub, director of External Bluetooth Products for Socket.

The MyNavigator software provides turn-by-turn instructions and map support for the United States and United Kingdom. The company said European maps will be added in the near future.

According to the company, the Socket Bluetooth GPS Receiver provides 12-channel all-in-view tracking of satellites, position accuracy of 10 meters, and supports the NMEA-0183 (v2.20) standard at 38,400 bps baud rate. The receiver is available now for $399.
