By Vikki Lipset
High Tech Computer (HTC) of Taiwan has received approval from the FCC to sell a Pocket PC Phone code-named Falcon.
The dual-band Falcon, which runs on CDMA networks, is reportedly similar to HTC's GSM Pocket PC phone, which is sold in the United States by AT&T Wireless (as the Siemens SX56) and T-Mobile, but adds GPS capabilities. HTC has not released any details about who will sell the phone in the United States, but Sprint PCS and Verizon Wireless are good bets since both have CDMA networks. Microsoft has two cell phone operating systems: the Pocket PC Phone Edition and Smartphone 2002. Pocket PC Phones look like PDAs with an antenna (they have no keypad), while devices based on the Smartphone OS are designed to resemble traditional cell phones. HTC manufactured the Orange SPV, a Microsoft Smartphone being sold in the United Kingdom. No U.S. carrier is offering a phone based on the Smartphone software yet, but AT&T Wireless and Cingular are expected to introduce models this year. Related Links:
