Studio EDGE and Studio COM, developed by Wavelink for Intermec, are software packages that are designed to give users of Intermec's rugged 700 Series mobile computers more flexibility in creating mobile applications. The Intermec 700 Series is based on the Windows Mobile for Pocket PC operating system.
According to the companies, Studio COM allows programmers to create wireless LAN applications by providing familiar development environments that eliminate the need for programmers to learn new languages. Studio COM supports mobile computers that use a variety of operating systems including Microsoft DOS, Windows CE and Pocket PC. It includes a library of close to 400 commonly referenced methods and objects to save development time and supports all COM-based languages, including Visual Basic, Visual C, Visual FoxPro, Delphi and PowerBuilder. Applications are run from the server, so each individual client device does not have to be updated when modifications are made.
Studio EDGE is an application development tool for the Java environment. The companies said applications can operate in any combination of batch, wide-area wireless and wireless LAN mode. Applications are created using a single graphical user interface that supports multiple types of mobile computers. Existing HTML code can be incorporated directly into Studio EDGE applications to provide a convenient, browser-like user interface regardless of connection mode. Both packages will soon add support for Intermec's new CK 30 mobile computer. Related Links:
