Fujitsu Siemens has introduced two new compact Pocket PCs, the Pocket LOOX 410 and 420. The new handhelds measure 4.5 x 2.8 x 0.6 in (11.3 x 7.1 x 1.4 cm) and weighs 4.4 ounces (125 grams).

While both models support Bluetooth, the Pocket LOOX 420 also supports Wi-Fi (802.11b) wireless networking. The Pocket PCs' transflective TFT supports the usual Pocket PC resolution of 240 x 320 pixels with a 65,536 colors.

The Pocket LOOX 400 Series employs 300 MHz and 400 MHz Intel XScale PXA 255 processors in the Pocket LOOX 410 and Pocket LOOSX 420 respectively, together with Microsoft’s Windows Mobile 2003 operating system, and not the more recent Second Edition version of the platform. Both handhelds include 64MB of RAM and 32MB of RAM. For memory and peripheral expansion, they integrate a SDIO-enabled Secure Digital slot.

Both models run on a 1100 mAH Lithium-Ion battery that is removable for up to 10 hours of power. When exchanging the battery for a optional spare battery, users have a 30 minute window in which to do so without losing their data.

The higher-end Pocket LOOX 420 comes with a docking station, while those who choose the Pocket LOOX 420 will have to make do with a sync cable. These models are only available in Europe so far. The Pocket LOOX 410 costs 399 EUR, about $491, and the Pocket LOOX 420 goes for 420 EUR, or about $517. There is no word as to whether they will become available in North America.

In related news, more information has come to light regarding a potential new Fujitsu-Siemens Pocket PC, the Pocket LOOX 700, with a VGA or 640 x 480 pixel resolution display. Loox.org is reporting that the screen size will be either 3.7 or 3.8 inches and include a 520 MHz XScale CPU. As for memory, the Pocket LOOX 700 will integrate 128 MB or RAM and 64 MB or ROM.

Other features include Wi-Fi and Bluetooth wireless and both a CompactFlash and a SDIO-enabled Secure Digital slot for peripheral and memory expansion. The loaded unit will even have a 1.3 megapixel digital camera and flash. The Pocket LOOX 700 is due late in the summer.
