By PocketPC City Staff
Two upcoming iPAQs, the iPAQ rx3400 and the iPAQ rx3700 received a different kind of approval than the iPAQ h6300 smartphone, which has just been given the okay by the FCC. These two device have won approval from the Bluetooth Qualification Program. The Bluetooth Qualification Porgram is the certification process required for any product using Bluetooth wireless technology. Because the new handhelds qualified, HP can now use the Bluetooth logo with them. The rx3400 and rx3700 have been approved at the older and still much more common Bluetooth 1.1 specification, the same as the h6300 smartphone. The newer Bluetooth 1.2 specification is designed, among other things, to reduce the amount of interference Bluetooth causes when Wi-Fi is integrated in the same device. According to rumors, the rx3700 should include a 400MHz CPU, a 1.3 megapixel digital camera, 64MB of RAM and 64MB of ROM as well as Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition, a 240x320 pixel resolution and 3.5-inch display, Wi-Fi and an SDIO-enabled Secure Digital slot for memory and peripheral expansion. The price of the rx3700 should be about $500. The rx3400 is should includ all the above except its processor will run at 300MHz rather than 400MHz and it won't integrate Wi-Fi for $399. Both handhelds are due to be released by HP in July along with the company's first handheld with a 640x480 pixel resolution display, the iPAQ hx4700.
