WolrdMate Updated for Windows Mobile

By James Alan Miller
November 29, 2005

WorldMate, the Swiss Army Knife of mobile travel software, offers a number of different tools to make life on the road easier for the mobile professional. Users get world time, global weather forecasts (provided by The Weather Channel), comprehensive flight schedules and flight status updates (provided by OAG WorldWide), travel itinerary and travel expense management, currency rates, converters and more.

MobiMate, the company behind the software, today released the 2006 Professional Edition of WorldMate for Windows Mobile.

The most notable additions to the 2006 edition is support for Windows Mobile 5.0. There's also a complete overhaul of WorldMate's Real-Time Flight Status service, so it now covers 75 leading airlines as part of the subscription. Another added service is weather imagery, which features detailed animated weather satellite and radar imagery.

“With Windows Mobile emerging as the platform-of-choice for business professional mobile devices, we are eager to support it with our state-of-the-art mobile travel services,” said MobiMate’s vp of product management, Amir Kirshenboim. “We are actively continuing to add services to the platform, maintaining our lead in the travel category.”

WorldMate 2006 Professional Edition goes for $74.95, which includes a one-year subscription.

All Platform Bestseller
Earlier this year, WordMate became the first application to be a bestseller for all of mobile software retailer Handango's supported platforms at the same time. Not only that, it achieved this distinction across multiple categories.

So WorldMate landed in the top ten for Handango's Travel, Business & Professional, and Personal Productivity categories for the Palm, Windows Mobile, Symbian UIQ, Symbian Series 60, Blackberry, Nokia Series 80 Communicators, and J2ME environments.

As the Handango's PR manager Ashley Walker put it at the time, "This is an outstanding achievement and we congratulate MobiMate for creating a product and service that users can't seem to live without."
