"PDA's need to be less all things to all people, and tailored to a specific market."That is one of the big fall downs of the PDA at the moment. The price a consumer pays for a cell phone, and and iPod, and a gaming mobile like a or PSP or GameBoy Advance quickly totals more than the cost of a high end PDA.
The current specialization trend seems to be to cram as much as possible into as small a platform as possible. This is rather frustrating. I do not want SMALL... yes I want a unit that is about the size of a wallet, but I am not interested in tons and tons of extra peripheral devices crammed on. I would rather have a larger screen so my big clumsy man-fingers can make the thing work, and modular expandability.
HP had their formula nearly perfect with the 2200 series- a functional pda, with built in bluetooth, SD port, and most importantly, a mini PCMCIA port that was initially configured to recieve a wide range of accessories. Unfortunately many of these accessories failed due to negligent marketing, and thus the new modles try to tack on built in cameras, keyboards, and GPS devices (among other things) that clutter up what the device is good for.
And I would not even begin to touch a PDA offering from Sony, Toshiba, or some of the others.
