Great, but not good battery life
This is my fifth PDA...my first was an early Windows CE, the next two were Palm based, and my most recent ones were PocketPCs. This is by far, the most powerful device yet. I love the dual expansion slots - I use my CF slot for a GPS device and got a 2gb SD card to hold the maps of most of the us. It performs incredibly as a GPS unit. It is fast, reliable, compact, responsive, did I mention fast. It's faster than my other Windows-based devices, but still short of the Palm in performance.

Tons of memory also! Finally don't have to worry about running out of room. Never an issue with Palm-based devices since the programs are very small for that platform. This is the first time I won't have that issue with a mobile windows based device.

My only issue is with the battery life. Constant use (without the GPS unit) only gets me about three to four hours...better than my previous PocketPCs, but not as good as the Palm-based devices. Battery life has always been an issue with Windows Mobile devices.

One note - DO NOT UPGRADE THIS UNIT TO WINDOWS MOBILE 2005! I got the upgrade free from HP as part of a promotion when I purchased my device, tried it, and removed it within a few days. It spontaneously wiped my SD card, killed some programs, and was simply too buggy. Don't know if that's inherent with all WM05 devices or simply with this and the upgrade, but I love the 2003 version!

Awesome
This baby is awesome. Here's what's going on for it:
-624MHz Processor
-128MB RAM available (user accessible)
-Embedded Biometrics
-Windows 2003 SE (landscape/portrait mode on-the-fly)
-crisp display
-no need for a case. Rugged/sturdy case with removeable screen cover
-fantastic battery life
-built-in WIRELESS (802.11b and bluetooth)
-CF and SD card slots (wonderful!)

The cons:
-No VGA (640x800) screen
-issues with Bluetooth memory stack
-avoid ROM update 1.10.09 if you use Biometrics/Encryption
-button presses not compatible with STYLETAP at this time
-non-consumer IR (it doesn't reach far for remote control operations)

OVERALL: I'd rate this a 4.5 out of 5.
I've had it for 4 months now and it's been my
-daily organizer
-GPS/Navigation Device
-book/novel
-newspaper
-email reader
-browser
-SNES/Gameboy/emulator
-DOS box
-Palmpilot (www.styletap.com)
-PDF reader
-Language translator
and so forth
