Hewlett-Packard(HP) recently informed PDAStreet that it will be providing hx2000 and hx4700 Pocket PC series owners with an opportunity to purchase Windows Mobile 5.0 Upgrade Kits.

The hx2000’s kit will be available for order this month, while the hx4700 (see top image) kit won't ship until next spring.

According to HP, unforeseen extended delays in the availability of a critical 3rd party driver required to operate the Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system (OS) with the hx4700 is the reason for the holdup of the upgrade kit's arrival for that handheld.

HP recently said the new iPAQ hw6500 series Pocket PC Phones would also see a Windows Mobile 5.0 platform upgrade, due at the end of 2005 or early 2006.

Windows Mobile 5.0 adds Microsoft's push e-mail capability to the cellular-wireless handheld. Something that isn't available with the OS (the Pocket PC Phone Edition of Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition) the hw6500 ships with.
