To resolve performance problems experienced by some iPAQ rx1900 series owners,
Hewlett-Packard recently posted a Firmware Update (SoftPAQ) for the handheld. The errors occur when a Secure Digital (SD) card is inserted. Either the handheld gives the impression it won’t power on or the battery has drained unnecessarily.
HP says these scenarios can occur when the handheld locks-up during the loading of the SD drivers while the unit is simultaneously updating Microsoft Outlook Calendar events. This renders some rx1900 series Pocket PCs unresponsive until a soft-reset.
Due to the dark screen, users are sometimes unaware that the device remains powered on in Standby mode, which continues to drain battery power. As a result, the iPAQ’s battery becomes depleted and unable to reboot after reset. Therefore, the user sees this as a battery consumption issue.
English, French and German language SoftPAQs are now available for download, with remaining language patches due for release early next month.
