Verizon XV6900 Getting Major Software Update

A major software upgrade is in the offing for Verizon's edition of the HTC Touch, the XV6900, reports phonenews. The site is hosting a version of this ROM update, which the carrier hasn't even announced yet.

The software upgrade is supposed to bring Windows Mobile 6.1, faster 3G in the form of EV-DO Rev. A network support, and a number of other new features to the XV6900—among them the Opera Mobile web browser and Verizon's VZ Navigator, the latter to work with the smartphone's integrated GPS.

Apparently, the XV6900's GPS function is locked down to only work with Verizon's location-based services. So it has been useless until this software update. Rumor has it hackers are already working on a way around this limitation, however.
