Hitachi ePlate HPW-600ET Power Problems

First, it would not power on quickly, then it would not power on. I replaced the CR-2032 backup battery both times, with some success. Now it simply won't power on unless the adapter is attached, and it eventually tells me that my backup battery is depleted or missing, and will not continue after a hard reboot. Hitachi is very explicit about installing the main battery before installing the backup battery. I have resorted to inspecting the machine but do not see anything obviously wrong. Does anyone have any idea if there are schematics available for this machine? My attempts to contact Hitachi were very frustrating and lead nowhere. Anyone with power problems? Is this message offensive or in violation of this board's policies? If so report it by clicking here.
