Most of the "busted-hinge-units" available for parts also have bad cables. Your best solution is to buy another "excellent-condition" Velo-1 as a replacement. If you don't need any of the accessories (or the main battery), a "bare-bones" Velo-1 can be bought at a reasonable price.
