This is the message I sent to Compaq after they told me I needed to send my unit in for repair. I am wondering if a few of you could try this out on your units to see if your IPAQs do the same thing."Please perform these steps to see if this is EXPECTED behavior before I send my unit in for repair:
1. Make sure IPAQ 3835 is using BATTERY power, un-cradled.
2. Turn the IPAQ on
3. Click Start, Settings, System, Backlight
4. On the Battery Power Tab make sure ONLY “Turn off backlight if device is not used for 30 sec” is checked. UNCHECK “Turn on backlight when a button is pressed or the screen is tapped.
5. On the External Power Tab make sure both boxes are CHECKED
6. On the Brightness tab, make sure “Automatic” is UNCHECKED
7. On the Brightness tab, slide the “On Battery” brightness level all the way down to OFF
8. Cradle the IPAQ to engage external Power
9. On the Brightness tab, now slide the “On Power” brightness level midway.
10. Un-Cradle the IPAQ. Now at this point MY IPAQ’s “On Battery” brightness level moves up 1 notch and then after 30 seconds goes to OFF. Is it normal for it to move up 1 notch when I was set of OFF?
11. Now cradle the IPAQ with power. THIS IS WHERE THE ISSUE COMES IN. When I cradle the IPAQ with power here, the “On Power” brightness level goes to OFF, when I think it should have stayed at Midpoint, right?
Please tell me if this is a Pocket PC 2002 software problem, an IPAQ hardware problem, or “Expected behavior.”
I was told by Compaq customer service that my unit needs to be sent in to have the system board replaced. I looked up the their reference on the Compaq site here: http://wwss1pro.compaq.com/support/reference_library/viewdocument.asp?source=MH020124_CW02.xml&dt=3. This does not quite describe my problem.
Any Help would greatly be appreciated
