waste of money
The unit had problems that could not be revolved despite being sent back 3 times (a 4th time if you include the recall). Toshiba could not fix the problem and refused to offer further support.

Problems:
- The unit intermittently hard resets for no apparent reason. It has done this at least 35 times).
- The battery completely discharges in <12 hours after being fully charged, even though it is turned off. There is no warning that the battery is low.

740E a great value
I have had a 740E for about 6 weeks now and it rocks. I got it on clearance for $299. WiFi is a little tricky to set up but 100% reliable when set up and latest patches from Toshiba are applied. I have a 128meg SD card in it and battery life is pretty reasonable considering it over all features. I like that it has Compac flash and SD slots and built in WiFi. I can plug in a modem and not lose extra memory or WiFi abilty, Pretty sweet!

WIFI Takeover
I intended to use the Toshiba (755) for wireless access at work. They use a LEAP WEP protocal. Toshiba doesn't support it. Ok. I downloaded another wireless app (from Aegis) that DOES support LEAP and the Toshiba client BLOCKS the access of the other software. No commitment from Toshiba to support other WEPs OR to be able to turnoff the software (but not the WIFI capability). So it's a nice, unconnected PDA (unless I'm at Starbucks!)

Great unless you want Mobile 2003
Just got off the phone with Toshiba and they still are not planning on making a mobile 2003 for the e740 although their 755 and 355 are shipping with it now.

Toshiba E740
Strengths: CF/SD/Bluetooth wireless ready without add ons.
Slim line size; Nice display color and contrast

Weaknesses: Battery life disappointing; Expect to loose all your data when battery dies, even after 'fix' from Toshiba; handwriting transcriber struggles after first few weeks of use; voice record button must be disabled or it records every time unit is removed from case

Lock ups on XL
I purchased the e740 and had 4 system lockups when playing with XL files in the first two hours.
I am thankful for reading similar comments in this forum. It was not my fault.
Therefore I returned the e740 and purchased a Dell Axim X5. It costs $200 less and I have not had any lockups in its 3 weeks of use.
I hope that this comment will be of help to others.
